Just enough...just in time!
|
Posted By: torin ellis on March 21, 2010 Having read the title of this piece - I'm sure you would agree that taking that position is plausible in few of today's professions. Keep reading. With unemployment hovering around 10%, do you want to take a chance of finding out if "it was good enough?" I doubt it. Ask anybody from IT to India, from Manufacturing to Michigan, how tough it has been to secure meaningful employment where the compensation is commensurate with their skill level. Right now the last thing one should consider is cutting back on self development (SD). SD in areas like servicing clients, not appearing desperate to prospective clients, willingness to collaborate, evaluating risk levels of new projects, preparing a better phase of discovery, following up after networking, and bringing value to internal meetings. I know you do all of that already. Right. Which is why I'm suggesting you share this piece with those in your circle that do the exact opposite. You know, your friend that brags about poor customer contact or arriving late for interviews or the one that wears less than appropriate garb in an effort to...fill in the blank. I'm thinking we all have a friend and/or peer that does just enough...just in time and complains about all in between. We all have one friend that could use our professional encouragement so that they too get their career on track. The solution is simple, have them create a profile and/or review these articles on career development delivered each week. With my many years of recruiting experience, I know what employers are looking for and I know what pains them the most. Mediocrity catches up every time. - - - - - - - - - - - - article submission by Torin Ellis of Rip The Resume. visit www.riptheresume.com for a phenomenal eBook on interview preparation.
