8 Years Later: Experience Of An Internet Marketer

Posted By: Vinicent Holland on April 15, 2010 I started trying to make a living online in May of 2002 right before I went in for my second back surgery. Having undergone a back surgery in 2001 that didn't resolve my troubles, the prognosis for the second surgery wasn't so-so but medical issues made the surgery not optional. I was disabled and would probably continue to be disabled but the bills didn't stop coming. Something about paying the mortgage and putting some groceries in the cupboard just strikes me as a good thing to do. So I started learning about online business ventures, i.e. Internet Marketing. I need to say this: YES people make money online every hour of everyday. You can login and see the websites of various companies as they hock their wares for us to buy, read and share. Billions of dollars are spent online by consumers every year. Advertisers pay huge sums to promote products and services. The internet has come a long way since the Dot.Com rise and fall and is contantly in a state of renewal. The "next best thing" is always being touted as one login away. Internet experts are a dime a dozen and pop up like crabgrass in the middle of your beautiful lawn. Promises of "money to let you live the life you deserve" and "you can get rich overnight" are constantly being bantered about in chatrooms, online forums and blogs. In the midst of all that "chatter" if you listen closely, you can hear the truth about making money online. Like I said, YES people make money online everyday. The real question is can you? Can you take your idea, product or service online and make money? How much money can you make? How long will it take to make the money? And the most important question, How much will it cost me to start making money online? So many websites worldwide. So many potential customers but what is your demographic going to be? Is your business available to people worldwide or locally only? Is it for everybody or just for women or men? How many other businesses are there like yours online already? How do you get started online? Some people would tell you the first thing to do is get a website. WRONG! The first thing to do is your due diligence. Read, research, educate yourself about the world of online business. Much like brick and mortar businesses you still need to know things in order to make your business work. Will your business be run by just you or will you have a partner or partners? Should you incorporate your business? What is your source of capital going to be? What can you do yourself and what will you have to outsource or get help with? How long will it take for your business to start generating cash flow? To start generating a profit? What happens if after all of your calculations and pro-forma predications your business isn't up to speed and generating profits at the expected time? What if your business model fails? Is failure an option? Do you have another business plan in you? Nobody wants to think about their business venture failing. I mean, why go into business if you think it's going to fail? Aren't there better things you can do with your precious life? Of course there are but if you don't try how will you ever know if you would succeed or not? Don't forget, many successful people tout failure as a golden opportunity. Failure teaches us what not to do and what to do differently. Failure offers the opportunity to do better, to improve on our vision and maybe even create a whole new vision radically different from the one we thought would be such a success. I offer that in order to succeed, you must be willing to think about the possibility of failure and what you will do to recover, rebuilid and move on if you do. That forward thinking will only serve to make your initial offering online, a better offering with more thought and effort put into it. I know I rambled on a bit but I hope I accomplished what this entry was meant to do. If you are thinking, examining and re-examining your online business venture then I have accomplished part of my mission. There is money to be made online. Your business can succeed. You too can be one of the many who are making a living online. From experience I can tell you this much, very few business become instant success offline and the same holds true for businesses online. What people call overnight success really does happen but it just happens over the course of many nights; often years of nights.
