Thought adjustment
|
Posted By: torin ellis on April 19, 2010 “Your eyes will adjust to the level of deficiency in your life” - Iyanla Vanzant. I could substitute confidence, efforts, networking, and passion, in place of “life.” Vanzant was suggesting during a live presentation that many have become accustomed to the circumstances surrounding their existence. In a word — comfortable. What’s funny is how the “comfortable folks” then look upon those of us that aspire to do more as being arrogant, conceded or lucky. Lucky – - - that one tends to make me smile. As if people like William Moss (HBCU Connect), Roger Madison (izania.com) and so many - so many others left out hard work. The result is always much greater than that of luck’s ability to produce. Not convinced? Read The Dip by Seth Godin. In 80 pages you’ll learn what it means to be the best in the world (pages 10-12), The Dip defined (pages 16-19), the contrast between quitting and failing (page 63), and questions to ask before quitting (pages 66-71). Thought adjustment - no reservations needed. We grown folks ... right? We know development walks lockstep with adversity. Here's a plan: step 1 - breach your contract with comfort. step 2 - stop complaining and start committing. The truth is that your gene pool holds DNA to great to number. Far too many - far too many combinations. At least one resembles your winning ticket. Dig deep - go after the job or business you want. Try this slogan: I'm comfortable is the old 20! - - - - - article submitted by Torin Ellis of Rip The Resume (riptheresume.com) an experienced human capital entrepreneur, career coach, recruiter and diversity marketing professional.
