Times Square heroes Saved The Day1

Posted By: NADRA ENZI on May 07, 2010 There is no such thing as " Black " safety or " White " safety. There's only different degrees of safety. I preach safety like TD Jakes spreads the Gospel. I promote safety the way Russel Simmons pursues entertainment deals. This civil right underwrites all the others. This weekend two Americans, Times Square licensed street vendors Duane " Action " Jackson and Lance Orton spotted smoke pouring from what turned out to be a car bomb. As veterans they knew only too well to sound the alarm. In this instance a mounted police officer responded and an evacuation quickly ensued. Did I mention this dynamic duo is Black? Funny how that gets lost in transmission when lives are on the line. The bomb in question wasn't designed to kill only one kind of American. It wouldn't have even differentiated between potential victims: illegal aliens; naturalized and native born would have suffered the same undeserved fate. The fact that two members of America's most continuous public safety cohort saved the day proves yet again why I preach and promote community policing. When Mr. Jackson discussed the working relationship enjoyed with beat officers while on FOX NEWS, I nodded in agreement. This perceptive pair practiced the prime tenant of what I call the civil right of safety: individual initiative! Had they not " policed " that scene by immediately notifying law enforcement, headlines would have been different. Tragically different. Duane " Action " Jackson and Lance Orton reminded us we're all unofficial first responders. Nobody knows when he may become sudden eyes and ears for liberty. They showed America and the world what happens when the civil right of safety is exercised. Just as they turned the tables on Terror, tomorrow one of us might have to do the same.
