what is the so called message that the media set out to promote.

I'm sitting here thinking about my future and just alot of things i want in my life and things i dont. However, I'm watching random videos on bet and I'm sitting here thinking is this how we as black people act and carry ourseves. As a young black man i question almost around me because i guess im just curious about life. But anyway i think the media has us fooled by what we see and i think that how stuff is portrayed automatically we have to go out imitate it and sometime sit is never the right choice and sometimes it can get us into trouble.

Like some of these female artist nowadays I dont understand how females can think it's okay to get up and take their clothes off or shake their behinds as if they were not raised like ladies. Most rappers give out a message that young men need to steal or have the best of the best and hustle and curse women out... and we dotn need that i just like the media out here is trying to poison our minds and turn almost all of our youths into a creation of the media. So i guess my thing is what i tell alot of my mentees is to never FOLLOW THE TRENDS BUT TRY TO SET THEM. B/c who you are will carry you for the rest of your life. But i decided to blog about i becacuse i never really hear anyone speak on the issue and i think it is a valuable issue that needs to be blogged.

Brother, great point.

I addressed this problem when I received a copy of a letter that a high school student wrote to BET demanding that more of their shows show a positive side of Black America. The problem with T.V. is that our children are not given enough examples of successful Doctors, Lawyers, and Businessman. Why is this??

Answer: Because they ain't on T.V. PERIOD!! Black American people are looked at as clowns to the world for many reasons. When THEY put us on T.V. we are either robbing each other, shooting each other, killing each other, getting high, shaking our ass on stage or involved in some type of scandal. Of course this is not every Black family in America but the T.V. will have one believing that. Rarely do you see a program on T.V. where a Black person is saying or doing something our youth can use or take with them.

The solution to our problem is in the problem. We need to create alternative broadcasting networks to show a different side of the Black Nation here in America. We need to become relevent on the international scene in more ways than just entertainment. We need to have a means of documenting our own accomplishments and stop letting television do this for us.

I say Black people need this more than any other people because we are on the bottom of this Global society. Now I know we are actually the fuel that keeps it going but my point is we are only credited for our "stardom"! It may be by design but we need to create ways to turn around our current state publically.

When a rapper is listened to by your child over a doctor, lawyer, or businessman then its something backwards about that. We need to break away from the television and focus on RIGHTLY educating our children on international affairs. The T.V. is teaching them to be clowns and fools.

We must make a transformation from our current state of mental death. Lets us show our youth another side of the Black Community which will give them positive examples and patterns to follow and perfect in the future.
