Facebook As A Tool Of Political Repression

Facebook As A Tool Of Political Repression
Posted By: Juan Davis on June 14, 2010

The other day I attempted to log into my Facebook account and received a message saying that my profile had been disabled. Since I'm writing a book and maintain a wesite detailing past and continuing human rights abuses upon the U.S. civilian population by fascist elements within the U.S. military industrial complex, I'm used to all kinds of harassment. So...I wasn't totally surprised by this most recent example of the technology of political control. After accessing the FAQ concerning what to do when this situation occurs, I followed their instructions and sent an email from the account I use for Facebook login. Here is their reply:

Subject: Re: My Personal Profile was Disabled
Hi,

Your account was disabled because your behavior on the site was identified as harassing or threatening to other people on Facebook. Prohibited behavior includes, but is not limited to:

• Sending friend requests to people you don't know
• Regularly contacting strangers through unsolicited Inbox messages
• Soliciting others for dating or business purposes

After reviewing your situation, we have determined that your behavior violated Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. You will no longer be able to use Facebook.

This decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Please note that for technical and security reasons, we will not provide you with any further details about this decision.

Thanks,
The Facebook Team

Now...here is my reply to their reply:
After reviewing your bogus reasons for terminating my Facebook account, I have come to the conclusion that your decision was based solely on political motivations due to my online activities, such as posting links for the benefit of members of Facebook groups I belong to. Some of the material contained at these links may be inflammatory to certain political factions because the information exposes financial improprieties and abuses of power by these factions. My activities on Facebook haven't been deemed harassing or threatening by any of the hundreds of people who have befriended me online up to this point, although I have had a few individuals inquire about how I knew them after submitting friend requests. What is the purpose of a social networking site, if not to meet new people and make friends around the world. It seems assinine to say that it is a violation of Facebook to contact others for the purpose of dating or business on a social networking site. I have contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation concerning electronic gang stalking and communication harassment and I consider this matter to be another example of such.
