Republican Party wants Detroit Public Education
|
Posted By: Hodari Brown on August 15, 2005 Recently I asked the chairman of the Michigan Republican Party a couple of a questions and than told him how I felt about charter schools coming to Detroit? So you weigh in and let me know what you think? Does the Republican party truly believe that Charter Schools are better than Public Schools when tons of teachers in Charter schools are not licensed teachers and the test scores of students in charter schools are worst off than public school students. So please don't tell me that the Michigan Republican Party supports this and thinks that the students in the City of Detroit are really getting a second chance. So please don't tell me that the Michigan Republican Party and the Republican Party in general supports Charter schools over Public schools. America was built on public education so is the Republican Party supporting private and charter schools over public education that is free for all. What is the Republican Party stance on this issue? I would surely like to know because this is an issue that could make me very disappointed in the Republican Party? Well sir, seven years ago Detroit was in a better position than it is now and that happened because of politicans like our beloved Gov. Engler. No Detroit doesn't need more money but we don't need charter schools either and for the Republican Party to take a stance that the party itself supports all kinds of educational options for any system that is failing is a political stance because show me the data where charter schools in the state of Michigan are better than public schools. Also when you think about, the only reason everyone wants charter schools in the city of Detroit is for political and monetary gains anyone. The more students that go to charter schools in the in the city of Detroit, the less state educational dollars goes into Detroit Public Schools literally forcing DPS to close and the whole city becomes Charter infested with no one really caring for the students. Come on now, for you to sit up and be the chairman of the Michigan Republican Party and say that you care for childrens educational future than what about you push for charter schools to be in other cities in the state, why Detroit. What about you push for charter schools everywhere in the state where school districts are not meeting test score standards or the "No Child Left Behind" standards that no one speaks out against. That's the most underfunded education bill in my lifetime and for you to not say a word about it but always telling us what Gov. Granholm and Sen. Stabenow are doing wrong but never telling us what the Republican Party is doing wrong or what Pres. Bush is doing wrong with education is what distrubs me. It's like the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are too caught up in bashing each other that it never looks at each others own dirt and try to clean it up. No one speaks out against Bush and when another republican politican in D.C. does, it's like it's a shocker or it's so wrong. Well news flash, I wrote to you a month on two ago and talked about the very issue of educaiton in America and not just America and how it is falling apart. Public school systems across America need help but not charter schools, in fact if we stop paying administrative officials top dollar and start taking care of the laborer such as teachers in particularly and provide better text books to urban populated cities where public education exists than maybe students can learn and succeed. Why doesn't any private companies want to just donate to public education like they do for private education. Why do Bing, Skillman and others want to have a charter school now and not before? Why do they care so much about the children of Detroit now and not years ago when the state passed a bill to take over our public educational system in Detroit that has left us to suffer and our school system in complete bankruptcy and deficit. Well, I will say this, the citizens of the city of Detrout spoke loud and clear last November and that was we wanted our school system back from the state and we will fight more now than ever to keep our kids in DPS where they belong because no one really cares about our kids in the city. Not the Democratic Party or the Republican Party because no one stood up and said to the school takeover of DPS seven years ago and no one stood up and said no proposal E in the city, so I really do suggest that if the Republican Party wants blacks to come back home than they need to start addressing blacks concerns which is the educational system in America. Why should a mother have to pay to afford a quality education or why should a student have to get bused out of district to get a quality education when his neighborhood school is just a block away? Public Education needs to live and survive for the sake of the children. This message is not political but it is real. Come to John J. Pershing High School on 7 Mile and Ryan in Detroit and meet with the students there particularly a group called the Yellow Ribbon Club and talk to them about Public Education and how it needs to be improved. Speak to the Parent group organization chair Ms. Teresa Lewis and co-chair Mr. Shabazz. Spend a whole day there and form an agenda to improve public education rather than destroy it by sponsoring every other alternative but supporting public schools in the city. We need improvements to start at the government level in this state because the government and the politicans of 1998 which included a republican governor spear headed the agenda to take over Detroit's public school system and destroyed it by laying off workers and teachers and leaving the students in a worse condition than they were seven years ago. Where were you seven years ago when this took place? Where was the Republican or Democratic Party? Where the politicans than? I'll tell you they were apart of the takeover and they sold the children out for what, because they didn't want the citizens of Detroit to have 1.5 billion dollars to spend on improving our public educational system. Since the school takeover law was passed seven years, how many other school districts have been taken over by the state? Only one and that's Detroit Public Schools. This is what the newspapers and news channels need to be covering, how the state has destroyed public education in Detroit. People need to go to jail and it all starts with the governor of Michigan from 1998 and the current governor.
