Hampton Alumni 10 Year Reunion QT2

Hampton Alumni 10 Year Reunion QT2
Posted By: Will Moss on February 28, 2005

Hello Fellow Quintessence II Classmates:

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Can you believe that 2005 is already here? We would like
to wish you all a blessed and prosperous New Year!

Since our last correspondence, the Reunion Planning Committee has been hard
at work planning an exciting weekend for everyone. As noted in our first
letter, the Official University sponsored Reunion Weekend is May 6-8, 2005.
We know a lot of talk has been going on about Homecoming 2005 being our
reunion weekend, but the official weekend, is May 6-8, 2005. If possible,
we would love to see you come out and support both events.

In our initial letter, we stated that $100 would be requested from class
members for class dues. Since then, we have finalized all activities and
have determined that $150 in class dues will be required to help defray the
costs associated with all university and class sponsored reunion weekend
activities. Our class dues amount includes an individual contribution toward
a Class of 1995 donation to Hampton University and the balance will be
applied toward the following:

* QT2 “Meet ‘n Greet” in Downtown Hampton
* Hampton University Reunion Banquet
* Hampton University Reunion Picnic
* A “Quintessential Affair” Evening Event
* QT2 Sunday brunch
* QT2 Class donation to Hampton University

*If you would like to have your donation to the University applied to a
specific scholarship or fund, please designate along with your payment.

Alumni Giving
We all remember the days of Hampton University having one of the largest
endowments amongst HBCUs. The truth is, very few of us actually understood
what that meant. We bragged and boasted about attending one of the country’s
richest institutions but, times are changing. Although Hampton may not be
experiencing some of the financial hardships that other HBCUs are
experiencing, support from our alumni family is not as strong as it once
was. The strength of the alumni donor base affects other potential sources
of funding and corporate contributions in many ways. When the University
solicits funds from potential donors, the donors inquire about the
percentage of the alumni that are contributing. Donors expect to see the
alumni represent at least 10% of the total donor base before they are
comfortable with contributing. Sadly, less than 10% of our current donor
base is from Hampton University’s alumni.

Our class target for our 10-Year Reunion is set at $20,000. We realize that
this is an ambitious goal but we ask you to make a contribution toward it,
however big or small. If you have already made a contribution to the
University for the 2005 fiscal year, that amount will also be counted
towards the total amount of our class contribution for this year. Every
donation counts, no matter the size! The number of alumni who contribute is
what truly matters.

So please give as you are able to give so that another young person might
have the same opportunity that we had to experience our wonderful “Home by
the Sea”. Our contributions will help to fund scholarships, endowments, and
will help the University remain competitive with majority institutions by
staying abreast of emerging technologies, research and changing academic
standards.
