Posted By: Mitchell Davis on September 11, 2010 Why Should I Get Any Computer Certifications? People always ask why should I get computer certifications like A+, Network +, Security +, Microsoft, etc? The answer to this is simple. One main reason for getting any of these certifications are because many employers now days are requiring their techs to be certified. Certifications especially the A+, Network +, and Security + are entry level certifications, meaning that they require you to know the basic knowledge in the specific area you are being tested. If you are going to consider a career in the IT field then you should obtain certifications for the career field that you are interested in, such as, if you like working on computer system with more of a hands on approach, you should consider the A+ exams. The second reason is that the certifications demonstrate your technical knowledge to your customers. Customers feel more at ease if they know the person working on their computer system is trained and knows what they are doing. You will gain the customers confidence more by having some technical training and a degree or certification to back that knowledge up. The A+ exams consist of two exams: The Essentials (601) which is required, then you can choose one of the other three exams as an elective. The Technician (602) demonstrates your knowledge in customer service, troubleshooting, configuring, upgrading, and installing operating systems and hardware components. The Remote Desktop Assistant (603) demonstrates your knowledge in customer service, remote desktop support, technical advicement via phone or internet, remote administration of any computer and operating system. The Depot Technicain (604) demonstrates your knowledge mainly dealing with the hardware aspect of compuer systems. The certification requires you to know hardware inside and out and is more detailed in this aspect than any of the other certifications. The Networking + certification demonstrates you knowledge in installing, configuring, troubleshooting networking operating systems (NOS). You will learn specific information concerning cableing, the layers of the osi model and how hardware and software relates and configures into it, routers, switches, hubs, topologies, etc. If you are interested in networking computers together for companies and businesses you should consider this certification in conjuction with the A+ certifications. The Security + certification demonstrates your knowledge in the area of computer system security. You will learn how security measures on the internet applies to a stand alone computer system, how authentification works online, how to secure computer systems against viruses, hackers, and threats againt all the different attacks carried out by hackers, and many, many more security details. This is a good certification to have in conjunction with Network +. The Microsoft certifications demonstrats your detailed knowledge about all aspects of the Microsoft operating system for Windows XP. The Microsoft certifications include many, many exams for the different operating systems and multiple exams for them. There are so many certifications out there ranging from A+ subjects to CIW (certified internet webmaster) to programming java, C, C++, etc. to choose from. If you have the opportunity to attend a school or obtain certifications or a degree you should jump on that. Knowledge and education is an investment, the more you have the better your life will be. So it is very important that you consider looking into getting certified in the field you wish to have a career in. Certifications will give you an added advantage over someone who does not have them and could mean the difference between getting a job or not. For more information about these certifications check the Official Comptia Website at http://www.comptia.org/ or http://www.ProProf.com/ a free information based website. source :http://www.scribd.com/doc/2274990/The-Importance-of-Certifications However, at any given time, there are usually some hot-button certifications that - because of supply, demand or the difficulty of achieving them - can substantially improve your salary or career prospects. For example, just a few years ago, the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification promised large salary jumps for IT professionals who could boast of having one. While it's still the most popular certification and still in demand, so many people have the MCSE certification (almost 400,000 engineers in the U.S.) that it's become more of an entry-level requirement. We asked IT recruiters and certification experts for their views on what will give you the most bang for your buck in the next year or two. We look at the top two here, with more certifications reviewed on Computerworld's Web site. Most of these are top-end certifications that require a few years of job experience in addition to training. Because they're more difficult to obtain, these certifications can increase your salary by 20% to 30%, If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
