NATIONAL BLACK PRE-LAW CONFERENCE & LAW FAIR
|
Posted By: Evangeline M. Mitchell on August 24, 2005 Attention Future Black Lawyers!!! The First Annual National Black Pre-Law Admissions & Preparation Conference and Mini-Law Fair 2005 will take place on Friday, November 4, 2005 at The University of Houston in the University Center from 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. Black law school aspirants nationwide will have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with law school representatives from law schools across the country and participate in empowering informational workshops and panel discussions. There is no registration fee although registration is required and free refreshments will be provided to participants. There will also be other activities throughout the weekend on November 5 and 6 including a Law School Admissions Help Advice Clinic, the National Association of Future Black Law Students (NAFBLS) Membership Recruitment Drive, a NAFBLS Awards and Recognition Reception, and an Author-Lawyer Book Signing featuring DeMonica D. Gladney (Reflections from God), Norma L. Jarrett (Sunday Brunch) and Evangeline M. Mitchell (The African American Pre-Law School Advice Guide, Profiles & Essays of Successful African American Law School Applicants and The African American Law School Survival Guide). There will also be other social and networking activities where you will have the opportunity to meet other aspiring Black law students in order to set up information-sharing and support networks, as well as current law students and lawyers who may serve as mentors and advisors to help you succeed during the often daunting law school admissions process and beyond. Our conference theme is “Empowering African American Law School Aspirants to Effectively Compete.” Our goal is to increase the chances of admission of prospective Black law students by emphasizing the importance of early strategic planning, understanding the highly competitive nature of the law school admissions process, and stressing the critical significance of academic preparedness and standing out among tough competition. Another component of this conference is to inform students about the academic rigors, demands and expectations of legal education, and to impart strategies to help them prepare for the law school experience prior to actually beginning their law school careers. We have a long and impressive list of law schools that will definitely attend who are very interested in recruiting future Black law students. If you are serious about becoming a lawyer, take full advantage of this awesome opportunity to fellowship with others in a positive environment where we have the common goal of wanting to see more African Americans successfully achieve their dreams of joining the ranks of Black law students and lawyers! You don't want to miss it! We look forward to seeing YOU in Houston this November!
