Veterans Day: Lest We Forget

Posted By: Rudolph Hickman on November 14, 2010 This past week, I attended and photographed a Veteran's Day Celebration that was held at Richmond's Veteran's Memorial and Museum. It was a touching cremony and at every moment since, I have wondered how many more lives will be lost fighting wars that are not ours to fight. Don't we have enough social, economic, infa-stucture and relationship challenges to keep us occuppied for a very long time? The truth be told, war is a business - an industry that sucks up bllions of dollars annually without much congressional inquiry and/or oversight? But more importantly, why do WE allow our leaders to show up the last few weeks of October during election time, beg for our votes and then fail to represent us the rest of the time? And where were WE when they decided to send our children off to war? It's a sad commentary when the best we can do is make time to go to funerals but neglect to take the ime to elect leaders who just might help us to eliminate the need for fighting wars that shouldn't be fought at all.
