Three Lady Knights named to Gulf Coast Athletic Conference's all-conference team

Posted By: Eddie Francis on November 19, 2010 New Orleans, La. - Three SUNO freshmen, Veronica Azubuike, Wynieka Anderson, and Gabrielle Carter were named to the 2010 GCAC All-Conference Volleyball Team. The trio helped turn SUNO from a 1-18 team, in 2009, to a 10-11 2010 contender for the GCAC championship. The Lady Knights were the GCAC Tournament runners-up. Azubuike is a 5'9" middle blocker from Arlington, Tex. where she played at Juan Seguin High School. Named Freshman of the Year, Azubuike led the conference in kills with 3 per game with a season-best game against Xavier in October with 18 kills. She also contributed 22 aces on the year with her best performances coming against Xavier in September and Judson College in October at 4 aces in each game. Carter is a 5'8" setter from New Orleans where she prepped at O. Perry Walker High School. She averaged 7.8 assists during the season with a season-best 48-assist performance against Judson College in September. Anderson is a 5'8" freshman outside hitter from Baton Rouge, La. where she played at Glen Oaks High School. During the season, Anderson posted 128 kills and 23 aces. Her season bests were 11-kill performances against Xavier in September and Loyola in October. The Lady Knights ranked in the top 33 in the NAIA in aces per game for most of the season.
