Triflin Katrina screwed us over

Posted By: T Crawford on September 01, 2005 I have no clothes. I have no more checking account. My school is flooded. New Orleans is underwater. My friends and classmates are stranded. I can't afford to fly out to any HBCUs. I'm out of school for a semester. Families are split up and have nothing left. Many people are homeless. I don't know what to do. I'm overwhelmed with how triflin all this was. Anyone who's even heard of Mardi Gras knows NO is under sea level. As soon as they heard that the hoe was gonna be a category 5, that's when they should've brought in the national guard. Someone call 911 and help get my classmates from being stranded on XU's campus. Please the water is rising and they have no roofs. I've tried, I've cried, I've emailed. I need help. Did you hear that Jesse Jackson got the rest of the students out on the 1st or 2nd of this month? Well if you didnt know he did. So thats a plus. I know how you feel cause I dont have anything either. I heard through the emergency number that Xavier has that were goona be back in school on jan the 4th. I dont belive things will be together that soon. Good luck and thank God that were all safe, and pray for those who are not.

Thanks. But I'm in a better place now, in terms of my worries and my heart. I made calls and texts and emails and I am sure my efforts along with hundreds of others were collectably helpful in evacuating those kids. Also, I'm focused on the racism portion of this whole mess now. A semester out won't kill me. But racism could. Bush sent aid to Florida BEFORE their category one. Our category Five didn't get aid until yesterday. And then they have the nerve to refer to us as "refugees". They STILL don't see black people (and even some poor whites) as human beings. I am going to volunteer with Black organizations and donate supplies and help as much of those poor people as possible. At a time like this, we need to work for those people. Another way to see it is this: The quicker we build the city back the quicker we go back to school.
