Religion: The Pillar of Human Decency
|
Posted By: Ivan Butcher II on February 01, 2011 Religion: The Pillar of Human Decency In addressing the sins of the Virgin Islands, Religion stands alone. One would think, the fact that there are so many Religious denominations represented here in the Virgin Islands, our sins wouldn't be so blatant. I am often asked what am I, Christian, Muslim, Rastafarian, Buddhist, Israelite and my reply is that, I am Human. I practice no religion. GOD THE CREATOR gave us two gifts: The Breathe of Life and Free Will. Religion takes away Free Will. Religion is Mankind's cultural way of paying Homage to GOD. As I see it, Religion has been the blight on the world. Some will react, Blasphemy. When any Religion dishonors a child of GOD, simply because they do not worship the way they do, it is a Sin onto GOD. Those who call out and, especially those who preach the Word of GOD and they're guilty of The Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, Greed, Envy, Anger, Lust, Gluttony, and Sloth, are the True Blasphemers. The Seven Deadly Sins of Religion here in the Virgin Islands are: Pride, now if there was ever a group of individuals, who need to learn the virtue of Humility, it would be the clergy. In my life time, the one person that represented all of what I believe to be our purpose in GOD'S EYES was Mother Teresa. The Messiah will not return in a three piece suit. Greed, I often wonder how can the Church knowingly accepted blood, sweat and tear money tithed to them from those who dishonestly exploit the people of the Territory. Envy, has to be how the different denominations compete, discriminate and often misrepresent what other Religions believe. Anger, maligning individuals who fall into sin and excommunicate them is not very spiritual. Although it may have been how Adam and Eve were handle after sinning against GOD'S Will, but it has also been written, Vengeance is mine, said The LORD. Lust, it is sad to admit that, although it is not highly publicized, we have clergy guilty of molestation and rape. In some cases it is not just children, there are those lost Souls looking for guidance and comfort who are being sexually abused or misused. Gluttony, Not only has the Church accepted ill gotten gains, they are getting Fat. The church collects charity, donations, tithes and tax exempt status and gives what back to the community, other than maybe to their on parishioners. Why are their doors closed after school and over the weekends and holidays when they could be serving the children? Sloth, the total lack of involvement in a meaningful way to address these dire conditions we are facing here in the Virgin Islands, when they should be the Beacon for the community. Again there are many more examples I and many of you can contribute to this list. The question has been asked, How can we fix it?
