Over 2,500 graduate and undergraduate members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will meet in Birmingham for the annual South Eastern Regional Conference, to be held from March 10-13, at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center Complex (BJCC) and Sheraton Hotel. The region consists of 49 undergraduate and 55 graduate chapters from Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. Adrienne Pope Kelly Washington of Huntsville serves as the 24th Director of the South Eastern Region and Tracey Morant Adams of Birmingham serves as Chair of the 79th South Eastern Regional Conference.

Although the conference is primarily a business meeting exclusively for members and consisting of plenary sessions and workshops, there are a number of free public events being sponsored as a part of the conference.

On Thursday, March 10th, the inaugural Harriet J. Terry Walk will be held at Railroad Park (2229 1st Avenue South) from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. in honor of Harriet J. Terry, a founding member of the sorority who taught at Alabama A&M University. The event is being sponsored by Banks Finley White & Co., Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Sam’s Club and will feature informational booths from community organizations and agencies such as the Sickle Cell Association of Central Alabama, American Heart Association and American Diabetes. For additional information about the walk, contact Cheryl Kidd at
