All Grown Up

All Grown Up
Posted By: Kiisha Nelson on September 12, 2005

For months now I have realized that on November 18th 2005 I will be twenty-one and the world as I knew it will change forever. When I was a child I always wanted to be older so I could do everything my mom told me I could not do. I wanted to be old enough to make my own decisions without my mom’s input. As my birthday quickly approaches I wish I had it all back. It was mom who had to worry how I was to eat, be clothed, and live. It was her who held the weight of the world on her shoulders for me and now that weight is cast upon me.

No longer will people be willing to do for me but I have to do for myself. It seems as life will never again be as simple and relaxed as childhood. The world is a scary place when you are unknowing of what your walking into. I know not what is on the outside of the comfort of home or school, though close friends have lived on the outside, but it was never my personal story. After graduation and after the party is over I am an adult, on her own, who has to fin for herself, and stand completely alone. In all my tewentyone years it is something I have seldom had to do.
