The National Center for Border Security and Immigration, A Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence at the University of Texas at El Paso Announces:
The 2011 Homeland Security Summer Scholars Academy Undergraduate Program!

Details:
Undergraduate Students from various disciplines interested in careers in homeland security and related industries over a ten week summer period will have the opportunity to:

· Work with professors on research in homeland security and create a research poster based on what was learned from your research experience, or

· Obtaining an undergraduate certificate in North American Relations with a border security emphasis while conducting research and,

· Experience one of the most dynamic border regions;

· Network with other students from across the U.S. interested in homeland security;

· Visit homeland security agencies & learn from experts in the field.



Students chosen for the program will be awarded a $4,000 stipend and receive paid on-campus housing and a meal allowance if students do not live within commuting distance (100 miles). Students who choose the research and certificate option will have their full tuition paid. A sample of the research areas of focus for the 2011 Academy includes:

· Exploring solution methods based on game theory for security applications

· Improving visual vigilance in human screeners

· Border preparedness for bio-terrorism threats and events

· Threats posed to national security by human trafficking

· Perceiver factors in the perceptual identification of ethnic persons

· Open source research, exploitation, and analysis of transnational criminal activities

Program begins May 31 and ends August 5, 2011. Application deadline is April 15, 2011. Opportunities for either program option are limited so apply now.
