Man Up...........

Man Up...........
Posted By: Ivan Butcher II on March 16, 2011

My first thought was hearing my Mother saying to me and my brothers, " Don't grow up to be a Spineless Jellyfish like our Father."

A common thread amongst the speakers was their Love and Respect for their Mothers and their desirer to make them proud.

There is an expression often used, he is a man's, Man. To me, they are images of the king of their castle, the player, the macho types, etc., a man's work is one thing and a woman's job is another.

I was raised by the Women of my Mother's family and they made me into a Ladies Man. The kind of man that they wanted for themselves. I was taught, a Complete Man was able and willing to do for his Woman what she was willing to do for them. I feel the highest expression of Love and Respect of a Woman is her Willingness to bare a Man's Child. I was also taught, the least the Man should do is to help make sure his children are Well.

Man Up! Has been one of the better out-reach program efforts, I have attended in a very long time. The speakers were All very impressive and excellent role models. I had to leave before the closing, so I can only speak to how I feel the closing could have been done.

Spirituality, would have been the closing topic, not Religion. GOD was a major contributor for their successes, and each one gave praise to the Almighty for the support and strength of their convictions. I often recommend Religion for someone looking and needing Spiritual guidance. As a youth, Christ sat in council with the Elder's of many Faiths and Beliefs in His travels before he began preaching.

I feel, there will be no change in many of the Youth's destructive behavior, because they do not know or realize that they have a SOUL.

I would have had a questionnaire for the students, to what dreams they have and to what sacrifices are they willing to make to achieve their goals.

The Big question is what happens Tomorrow, the Day After and the Day After Tomorrow?

Each mentioned that after this was all over with, that most would be returning to their own reality, an environment which breeds Dreams Deferred, and that this was just the beginning.

Next, organizations would have had their pamphlets and brochures of all the offerings in recreation and training presently available after school, for students, drop-outs and graduates.

To tell a kid, Just Say NO to Drugs, is meaningless. There has to be alternative, creative and productive options to engage them. What happen to that good old Christian philosophy, Idle Hands is the Devils Workshop.

With my many years of experiences on the junior high school level, I have met very few children if given something fun and interesting to do that they would not get involved. Once they are challenged, I could guarantee that they will not waste their time sitting some where nodding, while their peers are having fun, especially not those who have focus and are looking to excel.

A waste of talent are those youth arrested for selling drugs. Some of them with marketing skills: supply and demand, pricing, quality control, customer relationship, distribution, etc... but with the wrong commodities.

The missed opportunity here is that their rehabilitation should be training in accounting, business administration and sales. This would provide these offenders with the opportunity to still work independently and they would be able to legally offer their services to their peer entrepreneurs and the public at large.

This program also supported my position, that there are times when boys and girls need to be separated, in order to say what has to be said. One very noticeable observation was the length of time those young men sat and listened. I can guarantee, if girls were in the mix, it would have been pure distractions.

My feedback,

It is Time For Our Government Officials to, Man Up!
