Way to go, Kappa Alpha Psi
|
Posted By: Stacie Coulter on March 22, 2011 By Tidewater News Hats off to those involved with reactivating the Franklin-Southampton Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. Initially formed about 15 years ago, Kappa Alpha Psi is a service organization of predominantly black membership formed on Christian principles. Since the fraternity’s founding on Jan. 5, 1911, at Indiana University Bloomington, it has never limited membership based on color, creed or national origin. The fraternity has more than 150,000 members with 700 undergraduate and alumni chapters in every state of the United States, and international chapters in the United Kingdom, Germany, Korea, Japan, the Caribbean, Saint Thomas, Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Nigeria, and South Africa. Local members like Terry Rawls, Hurley Day, Larry Jones, Keith Nichols, Howard Darden, Larry Blunt, Adolphius King and Victor Picot will raise money and volunteer for the betterment of the community. The local chapter, which will also serve Isle of Wight County, meets at 7 p.m. the first Monday of the month at 510 N. Main St., Franklin. For information, call 650-8471.
