Stamford Center for the Arts honors Mercede, Diana Ross

The last time Frank J. Mercede saw Diana Ross in concert, he was a student at Ohio University and she was leading the Motown group the Supremes.

"It's a small world," he said of the fact that four decades later, the Stamford Center for the Arts would be honoring him on the night the legendary performer also was receiving an award, and, later would perform a 90-minute concert.

"This is the first time in my life that I am being recognized ... publicly," he said. "It's quite an honor."
