Education

Education

Does education mean the same thing today as it did 60 years ago? A few years back, education was the means for a certain people od color to live a better life. It meant not to have to become a maid or a driver for some rich person or to work in the rail yard for a small pension and a gold watch. It was a route to respectability, and the means to own land.

Land ownership was a goal because that was the means for certain people to be established, to vote, or to be SOMEBODY in their community.

Today, you ask students what does it men to be educated and the answer is "more money, more money." Has being educated lost its status symbol or was it ever a status symbol? Is it really important which college or university one attends? Some people say that a diploma is a diploma. When out in the world, do employers really pay attention to the school or just the fact you completed something?

Weren't you educated to acquire skills? Is Green connected to some type of learning whether it is a 4 year college or some other type of howning process? It sounds like your idea of education is somewhat narrow. Education was always a means to acquiring money. It has never been tied to a university as such. Most times Ditch diggers make more money than paper pushers or book readers. I personally people who had respectability and did not have a college degree. Don't you think respectability is based on your value system?
