Posted By: Alvin Giles on May 09, 2011 He is making music to uplift the community and inspire people to maximize their potential. This song, which he gives away for free, was inspired by the deaths of young people at the hands of their own peers. Youth such as Derrion Albert and Bobby Tillman. Vthov has declared war on those elements of our community that seek to corrupt, exploit, and ultimately destroy our youth before they even have a chance to experience life. Listening to this song one gets a glimpse at the true potential of hip hop when an artist ascends beyond the money making agenda. Alvin “Vinthoven” Giles is a graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Jazz Studies and Commercial Music. He was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. He is a multifaceted instrumentalist who began studying piano at age six. He studied saxophone and percussion in middle school and marched snare drum in high school. Vinthoven’s b.k.a. Vthov’s music is highly regarded as a breath of fresh air. He intricately weaves musical elements together with fluctuating rhyme schemes to produce a fresh sound. He has inconceivably merged the virtues of self-worth and a positive outlook, with contemporary swag. He is not a Dboy, gang banger, or swagged out “champaign popper” and his music escapes the confines of mainstream taste to bring his listeners raw thought provoking lyrics over sonorous beats. In four words… good music is back. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
