I am very grateful and blessed to receive such an acknowledgement, said Delancy. Coming from Liberty City (Miami, Fla.), I have always said that FAMU has meant the world to me and my careers, both athletically and professionally. It weighs very heavily on my heart to return the support that I have been afforded over the years by mentoring younger students on campus, sharing my experiences in the community and promoting our great University. This acknowledgement is humbling, and it rejuvenates my spirit and energizes me to press forward representing FAMU well and being a steward of the Universitys mission.
A native of Miami, Fla., Delancy earned his bachelors of science degree in construction engineering from FAMUs College of Engineering Sciences, Technology and Agriculture in 1999 graduating magna cum laude. On April 30, 2011, Delancy received his juris doctorate
from FAMUs College of Law.
As quarterback for FAMU, he led the Rattlers through two winning seasons including the 1996 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion-ship. He was twice named the Florida Classic Most Valuable Player and was voted MEAC and Black College Player of the Year.
A true All-American, he demonstrated the same hard-driving spirit on and off the field breaking all-time passing records.
In 2006, he was inducted into the FAMU Sports Hall of Fame.
His work at Skanska has enabled him to pursue his dream of leaving a lasting legacy at FAMU, where he oversaw the construction of FAMUs School of Journalism and Graphic Communication and the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceuticals Phases I and the construction of Phase II, which is scheduled to be completed by fiscal year 2013-2014. These projects have and will include the latest technologies in environmental design and energy efficiency allowing FAMU to reduce design, construction and overall operating costs.
He serves as a visiting instructor to FAMUs Construction Management Program through Skanska CM Building Blocks. He brings his considerable experience to the table teaching students and fellow general contractors the fundamentals of construction business management and construction concepts. He also plays a pivotal role in facilitating financial and inkind support for scholarships, recruitment and athletics.
A graduate of Miami Edison Senior High School, he is a member of the FAMU National Alumni Association, Inc.
