Posted By: Ngonzi Truth Crushshon on September 25, 2005 Recently, I visited Africa. We as African Americans are enslaved mentally on the subject of Africa and Africans. We still believe what we see on tv: Africa as degrading, poverty stricken, etc. What is more is that some people choose to be ignorant about Africa(ns). How much do you know about Africa or where your ancestors have come? Africa is rich in history, culture, and people. Africa is the cradle of civilization. There is a dire need to enlighten ourselves as college students on our heritage. HOW? By making an attempt to learn something about Africa. By distributing more information on Africa. By contributing to organizations like World Vision. It literally takes $1 to feed an African child or adult. But what classes in our colleges help us to understand the plight of Africans globally? As for me I took one class that incorporated Africa into the curriculum- in the entire 6 years I was at FISK UNIVERSITY.
