Alcorn State President Seeks Return of Soul Bowl Football Classic

Christopher Brown II announced yesterday his hope for a return of the longstanding “Soul Bowl” football classic between Alcorn and in-state rival Jackson State University. In a statement released yesterday, Dr. Brown outlined plans to return the rivalry, and called it “fiduciary responsibility” to seek other football options outside of Alcorn’s current relationship with the Capital City Classic. “The truth of the matter is that the Capital City Classic has not been the same over the last three years,” said Dr. Brown. The game has lost attendance; alumni and sponsors are losing interest; and quite frankly, the University has lost revenue.
