CIAA Rivals Adjust to St. Paul’s Departure

Posted By: Hija Chang on May 23, 2011 St. Paul’s decision to drop intercollegiate sports has left its student-athletes, the CIAA and its former opponents in a bind. The 650-student Lawrenceville, Va., school will officially cut its varsity athletics program on July 1 in order to improve its overall financial health. As a result, the CIAA will formally drop St. Paul’s from membership in the Division II league, leaving it with 12 members. “As long as they don’t have athletics, it won’t be appropriate for them to be in the CIAA,” league spokeswoman Shera White said. “If they have their financial situation settled, they’ll have to seek reinstatement.” Read the full story via: http://bit.ly/kqH8CH If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
