HELP ME UNDERSTAND!

HELP ME UNDERSTAND!
Posted By: Ja'Rai Hughes on September 30, 2005

today i was in a class and my professor and i were discussing racism. he told me that he thought that in order to stop racism we have to put the racist terms behind us, such as the "n" ( i hate that word). He says that if we forget that the word is wrong and ignore people that use it to hurt us, we take away the power of the word and it no longer has meaning therefore destroying racism. what do u think.... mind u my professor is white.

I think racism involves a whole lot more than the use of the 'n' word. I also think the act of being a racist as opposed to speaking racist terms is far more detrimental. I think that unfortunately racism will always be here.

If you think about it, everyone is or has been a racist. It has little to do with what people say, and more to do with what people feel. Also, it not only involves the issue of black vs white. Racism is racism, period. Like Ms. Brown stated, it is something that will always be there, just like hate, crime, terrorism and any other negative things. The best of us (people) just have to look past that.

There is really no way to eliminate racism. White people will hate us no matter what, but what we can do as a race is to not ignore the situation, but fight it (not physically) but by protesting. If the black community made a stand, (and stop fighting each other) We can have more opportunities in jobs and etc. Besides your teacher seems like a racist, by telling you all to look the other way if someone degrades you. That is what happened during the 1940's and 50's until Dr. Martin Luther King led the fight against racism.

Well, I really don't know about what your professor said, but I do know that how can we possibly put that "n" word behind us (and I hate the word as well) if our people have begun and continue to use it as well as teach are children to use it as a term of endearment. Are You At All Serious? According to what the Lord has said, it has to get worse, before getting better or being at its best.

I think that Professor is teaching wrong and there is definetly a difference between racism and feeling at odds against those who have wronged you.
Thats like saying a person that has been raped should not have anything against the rapist if you feel me.
