A Day in the Life of Miss Claflin University
|
Posted By: Ariel Manning on July 25, 2011 Hello All!! This is my longest and final blog as Miss Claflin University 2010-2011. This summer has gone by extremely fast and I’m taking this day of the last week of July to sum it up! Immediately following our school’s graduation I took a much needed week – long break to relax and prepare for the summer. The first thing I accomplished was renewing my CPR certification. CPR education is very important to be aware of because you never know when someone may need your assistance. Next, I conducted a 7 week long biomedical research internship on my campus. (YES! Claflin University has internships possibilities, if you’re interested! ) During this 7 weeks not only was I conducting research from 8am-5pm but, I have also been studying for the MCAT and I participated in three major service activities. I was asked to host and conduct a “No Bullying” segment in a middle and high school tour on “Bullying and Staying Fit” Sponsored by New York’s Famous Hot Dogs. This daylong event allowed student to witness the effects of obesity and bullying firsthand and learn how to prevent these things from happening. As a community leader, former President of Delta Gems, and present member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated I was asked to speak at the closing program for the Delta Gems and Dream catchers of Orangeburg, SC. This allowed me to speak to the young girls and give the valuable steps to take in order to become successful in life. I also continued my work at the local animal shelter and I also added a fish to pet collection! Following these activities I took time to hang with family and friends in NY, NJ, SC, and NC. All in all, my summer has been rewarding and wonderful! As many of you may know I did not have enough votes to be featured in Ebony Magazine. I wanted to say a quick thank you to those who voted and supported me and my University! GO PANTHERS!! I will continue blogging as “Miss Orangeburg USA.” I have applied and been selected to participate in the Miss South Carolina USA pageant which can eventually lead to the Miss USA Pageant. I am not doing this for the camera time, nor am I competing for the attention. I would like to become a role model and figure that inspires youth and adults to do the right things and help someone else while doing so. I’m hoping for lots of support and thoughtful prayers! Have faith, believe, and succeed! If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
