STEP (Student Temporary Employment Program) Here is where you can start during school break! This program offers temporary work experience for a few months so that you can see how we operate from the inside. Look for these programs in the late spring and early summer. Many of our STEP employees go on to our SCEP and FCIP programs. SCEP (Student Career Experience Program) Often referred to as a “co-op” program, this program offers part-time work experience while you are going to school, based upon an agreement between IRS and your college or university. When you graduate and complete our program, you will be eligible for a non-competitive conversion to a career or career-conditional appointment. While employed in this program, you are entitled to the benefits of federal employment based upon the number of hours you work. It requires nomination by your school and completion of an OPM-administered assessment. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible for conversion to a career or career-conditional appointment. Ready to get into your new IRS career?
