Game Week Thursday: Story Lines (Live chat plug, too)

Game Week Thursday: Story Lines (Live chat plug, too)
Posted By: HBCU Connect Sports on September 16, 2011

Before we dive into the Thursday edition of our Game Week blog series, let me remind you guy and gals about our live chat tonight at 8:30.

Well have a link to the chat, as we always do, on the blog later today. Tonights chat is the first in our weekly Thursday night chats on JSU football. Thats right, well have one each week at 8:30 on Thursdays except for the Texas Southern week, when JSU and TSU play on Thursday night (well do it on Wednesday then).

Now, onto Story Lines, a Game Week Thursday post where we give you relevant stories concerning this weeks game.

  • B.J. Lees status: The Tigers starting running back says he may not play[1]Saturday. He certainly wont be 100 percent healthy by then. That leaves it up to Rakeem Sims, Tommy Gooden and Marquese Dunn to take some pressure off of that Air Raid offense.
  • A blowout or failure: By scheduling an opponent like Concordia College, Jackson State may have guaranteed itself a victory. But at the same time, the Tigers have what coach Rick Comegy calls everything to lose and nothing to gain.

JSU is expected to win. And win big.
  • Stuff that run: JSUs weakness last season will be a focal point in the opener run defense. Concordias strength lies in its pair of running backs. JSU, especially the middle linebackers, must stuff the run. If the Tigers cant stuff Concordia, who can they stuff?
  • Air Raid:Fans havent seen the pass-happy Air Raid offense in action since, well, uh, the second quarter of the 2010 season finale against Alcorn State, when QB Casey Therriault got hurt. The Tigers went from a prolific passing attack to a high school-esque QB run club.
