Later, Alabama State (1-5) earned their first win of the season with a straight set (25-17, 25-18, 25-11) victory over Claflin University (0-2).

Asia Manning led the Lady Yellow Jackets offensively with a game high 14 kills, and Maya Bell recorded eight service aces, while Ana Pego, dished out 25 assists. Defensively Luiza Griz collected 12 digs.

Claflin was led by Lydia Wise with nine kills, Lauren Calvin seven kills, and Faith Simmons with seven kills. Kathrin Fischer dished out 23 assists. On the defensive side Courtney Person was credited with seven digs.
