Hornets Frustrate Drexel, But Fall 2-0
Posted By: HBCU Connect Sports on September 14, 2011

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. It was a tough loss to swallow for the Delaware State University women's soccer team as they fell, 2-0, to Drexel University Monday evening.

The Hornets held the Dragons scoreless in the first half, with freshman Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.) recording four saves. Overall in the game, Koslosky tallied eight saves. Junior forward Juliana Speroni broke the scoreless tie in the 71st minute to give Drexel a 1-0 lead. With four seconds remaining in the game, senior Jenna Lindsay tied the DU school record for career goals with 20 as she put in a deflected the ball and take the 2-0 win.

"This is a tough one to swallow as the score doesn't really indicate the job we did on the field," stated DSU head coach Nitan Soni. "We worked very hard to make them feel uncomfortable and to have a goal with four seconds remaining is really tough.

For the better part of 90 minutes, we made it very difficult for them to score."

The Dragons outshot the Hornets, 21-6, with just 11 of those shots coming on goal.

Junior Theresa Wappett (Queensbury, N.Y.) and sophomore Kaitlyn Schech (Abingdon, Md.) each got off two shots on the night for DSU.

The Hornets got off two shots between the 79th and 81st minutes to try to tie the game, but one went wide and the other was saved by Eve Badana.

The Hornets fall to 0-3-1 on the season while Drexel recorded their first win and move to 1-1-1.

DSU returns home to host Towson on Friday at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
