| | Posted: 8/26/20119:03AM Quinn Porter Anyone else think he is our best back next to Hillis. I can't really includeHardesty since we really know nothing about him and until he regains his confidence, he won't be productive. Looking at the backs after those two though, between Jackson, Smith and Porter, I am the most impressed with Porter. He seems to be tough, quick and has really good patience and vision.
I know he's played against second and third teamers, but I've been impressed with him. | | Reply | Quote | | Posted: 8/26/20119:06AM RE: Quinn Porter
I think Brandon Jackson is leaps and bounds better than that Quinn guy. | | Reply | Quote | | Posted: 8/26/20119:29AM RE: Quinn Porter

I would rather go with Porter over Jackson. I am not impressed with Jackson......to me you have to look at performance and give Porter a shot. | | Reply | Quote | | Posted: 8/26/201110:47AM RE: Quinn Porter

So Jackson's 700 yards rushing for the most recent Super Bowl champion doesn't qualify as "performance?" | | Reply | Quote | | Posted: 8/26/201110:48AM RE: Quinn Porter

LMAO!!
There isone of these guys on every roster who is getting a few yards in preseason games in the 3rd and 4th quarters. And there are fans on every team who is saying "Hey....I like that guy...lets SEE WHAT HE CAN DO!"
Heres the problem. The coaches are with these guys EV-ER-Y day in practice. If they really are worthy of a shot..they'll get it. There is no reason for the coaches to hold a guy back that might turn out to be good. You have to take what you see with a grain of salt. WHO is he looking good against? clue: defenders on the opposing team that probably wont be playing in the NFL . Yeah but..I like the way he hits the hole.. Lotsof sub-parRB's can hit a hole thatswide enough to drive a truck thru.
Look...Im not saying the guy isnt any good...its just that there are guys like this every year. Remember Ben Gay? They're called "Training Camp All-Stars"If he has talent enough to contribute to the Browns or the any other team in the NFL...the cream will rise to the top. It always does. | | Reply | Quote | | Posted: 8/26/201111:40AM Re: Info on Quinn Porter's career

Put Porter in with the first stringers and let him play against a first string defense and see if he performs as well. Porter over Jackson? C'mon man...

| | Reply | Quote | | Posted: 8/26/20111:14PM Re: Quinn Porter Running back is one position where there is little drop off in talent & athleticism between the 1st or 2nd string guys and the 4th or 5th teamers. Additionally, because of the short shelf-life of running backs, this is a position where you want guys with 'young, fresh legs.'
It's for that reason that guys like Porter & Armond Smith have a chance of making the roster and/or taking a spot away from a more established player, like Brandon Jackson. Do I think that will happen? It's unlikely, especially because of Hardesty's injury history. However, I think there's a decent chance we keep a 4th RB on the roster this year. | | Reply | Quote | | Posted: 8/26/20111:41PM Re: Quinn Porter no they don't have a chance of taking a spot away from Brandon Jackson.

Seeing as how Brandon Jackson's foot is in a cast today and the reports are that he'll be out for awhile, it appears the door is wide open for Porter & Armond Smith. I have to wonder if Jackson could end up on the PUP list. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns bring in another running back, especially once other teams announce their cut downs. | | Reply | Quote | | Posted: 8/26/20115:21PM Re: Quinn Porter

I think the PUP list is only for people who arrive in camp with a lingering physical issue and can't even practice, not for those who get hurt inpractice or in a preseason game. | | Reply | Quote | | Posted: 8/26/20115:45PM RE: Quinn Porter
Jackson was ahead of Porter on the depth chart in Green Bay and he's ahead of him on the depth chart here. I trust the coaches know runningbacks better than any of us.

I was impressed with what Porter showed against Philly, albeit against their 2's and 3's. He finds the openings pretty well and moves through them nicely. I wonder how he is at catching the ball.
