Dominique Sherrer and Javonti Greene each ran for 120 yards and a touchdown to lead Eastern Michigan to a 41-9 victory against Howard Sunday in Ypsilanti, Mich., in a game that was pushed back a day because of thunderstorms in the Midwest.
Julien David gave Howard (0-1) a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, returning an interception 29 yards for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed.
Trailing, 9-3, the Eagles scored 24 points in the second quarter to take command.
After a field goal, Alex Gillett hooked up with Garrett Hoskins for a 25-yard touchdown pass at 11:31 of the second quarter.
Greene added a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:31 remaining before half and Gillett scored on a 14-yard run to make it 27-9.
Gillett finished with 115 yards passing and two touchdowns and 76 yards rushing.
Sherrer had a 77-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. It was the first touchdown of his career and the second longest for an Eastern Michigan player in Rynearson Stadium.
LSU
Defensive end Sam Montgomery said he's speaking on behalf of all Southeastern Conference teams.
After the fourth-ranked Tigers' 40-27 season-opening victory Saturday night against No. 3 Oregon, Montgomery said he thinks the SEC unquestionably runs the NCAA. For now, it's hard to dispute that.
The SEC has won the past five national championships, including the Tigers' most recent title in 2007.
Oregon, which lost to Auburn in the Bowl Championship Series national title game in January, has to recover in a hurry to remain in the conversation for a title shot this season.
The Ducks play host to Nevada, which was 13-1 last season.
Next for LSU is its home opener against Northwestern State, five days before the Tigers play their SEC opener at No. 20 Mississippi State.
Missouri
The Texas Longhorn Network that pushed rival Texas A&M out the door of the Big 12 Conference has quickly become a model for other conference schools. Missouri is the latest Big 12 member to join the digital realm, alongside Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas State. The Mizzou Network will be an Internet-based channel with live, multi-camera broadcasts of the school's Olympic sports along with behind-the-scenes glimpses into previously off-limits activities such as football practices or basketball locker rooms. The network, which starts Dec. 1, will carry applications for smart phones, tablet computers and Internet-capable TV.
