Montgomery High School graduate Quinton Spears was cut by the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, but it didnt take long for him to find a home.
Spears was claimed by the Cleveland Browns off of waivers and was added to the teams 53-man roster according to a press release posted on the teams website.
Spears, a 6-foot-4, 234-pound defensive end, is a 2006 graduate of Montgomery and was signed by Miami after an illustrious career at Prairie View A&M where he was a two-time All-SWAC selection.
In three preseason games with the Dolphins, Spears had three tackles and a sack. He fell victim to the final round of roster cuts as teams trimmed down to the required 53 player maximum before the season opener.
Spears former Bear teammate, Greg Smith, was also cut on Saturday.
Smith, a tight end and former University of Texas standout, was let go by the Carolina Panthers and has not yet been claimed off waivers.
Once through waivers, Smith will be free to sign with any team willing to offer him an opportunity.
Spears was once a walk on wide receiver at Prairie View A&M before being converted to defensive end. He recorded 70 tackles and 4.5 sacks as a senior last season and blocked three kicks.
