Drawing his second career start, junior linebacker Tay Speedy Alford shared the team lead in tackles with seven stops in Southeastern Louisianas 47-33 season-opening loss to Tulane in the Louisiana Superdome.
Alford also contributed a sack for a 12-yard loss in Saturdays game.
Alford made his first collegiate start last season against Stephen F. Austin, registering a career-high nine tackles.
A look at how some other former Bastrop Rams did on the opening weekend of the college football season:
RUEBEN RANDLE caught the go-ahead touchdown pass from 10 yards out with 44 seconds remaining in the first half in LSUs 40-27 victory over Oregon. It was Randles lone reception, but the junior wide receiver drew two pass interference penalties, one in the endzone.
Defensive tackle Josh Downs made one tackle for the Tigers.
BUD: Cornerback Edward Patterson was credited with a tackle and a pass breakup as Grambling defeated SWAC rival Alcorn St. 21-14 in the Red River Classic.
THE JONESES: Senior defensive end Deddrick Jones registered a 3-yard sack in Southern Mississippis 19-17 triumph over Louisiana Tech and junior defensive tackle D.D. Jones was in on a tackle as Arkansas routed Missouri St. 51-7.
D-LO: DeAngelo Benton is still at Auburn, although his name was inadvertently omitted from last weeks list of former Rams in college camps. However, the junior wide receiver did not see action in the defending national champion Tigers 42-38 win over Utah St.
DEBUTS: Redshirt freshman cornerback Dre Brandon and freshman running back Rodriguez Moore made their college debuts last week. Brandon saw action, but did not record any stats in Arkansas Techs 38-31 loss to Arkansas-Monticello. Moore had a 70-yard touchdown run negated by a penalty as East Mississippi Community College upset No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast 34-30.
