We won't know the official BCS standings until the eighth week of the college football season. Still, it's always fun to take a look and speculate as to where they would be.
A lot will change between now and then, but this is what the BCS would most likely look like if we saw a poll today.
1. Oklahoma
No, they didn't beat a particularly daunting opponent in their 47-12 rout of Tulsa.
Still, the Sooners did what they had to. A convincing win from the team that was pretty close to being a unanimous preseason No. 1 should be enough to keep them in the top spot.
2. LSU
Breathe easy, Alabama fans. You will get your chance against LSU.
I know it's never ideal to have a team fall in the rankings after winning. But LSU was dominant against a highly respected Oregon team.
Alabama's 48-7 win over Kent State just doesn't quite add up to what LSU did against Oregon.
3. Alabama
Who should be No. 1
Oklahoma
LSU
Alabama
Boise State
Florida State
Other
The best case scenario for Alabama is that they remain undefeated until their November 5 showdown against the Tigers. Then of course the best case scenario would continue with a win against LSU and the remainder of their games.
If that happens, the Crimson Tide will make the BCS Championship game with ease.
4. Boise State
Call me an optimist here, but these guys need to be ranked.
An impressive win against a ranked SEC team in a glorified road game should be more than enough to put the Broncos right here.
5. Florida State
There weren't many particularly great showdowns in the opening week. The Seminoles played a Louisiana Monroe team that's good for a small conference team, but no match for top level BCS opponents.
Florida State's big chance comes in Week 3 against Oklahoma.
6. Stanford
The Cardinal started the first game of the post Jim Harbaugh era fine with a 57-3 win against Stanford. Unless we see an upset ahead of them, Stanford is not likely to vault anyone in Week 2 against a weak Duke Blue Devils.
7. Oklahoma State
The Cowboys have their eyes on a National Championship appearance this year. Offensively, they looked great in a 61-34 win over Louisiana-Lafayette. Defensively, they will need to tighten things up.
8. Texas A&M
A big Week 4 showdown against Oklahoma State awaits the Aggies. They got their season off to a good start with a 46-14 blowout of SMU.
9. Wisconsin
This team is a National Championship sleeper. They have tough games on the schedule, but the Badgers could very well be undefeated.
A 51-17 blowout of UNLV put them on the right path.
10.
Nebraska
The Cornhuskers started their run in the Big 10 in very impressive style. They won't have too many chances to impress the pollsters until their October 1 showdown against Wisconsin.
11. Virginia Tech
How many teams have been as reliably good as the Hokies over the last 15 years? Not many.
A 66-13 win over Appalachian State wasn't exactly a shocker, but they were impressive.
12. South Carolina
Uncertainty at quarterback could cost the Gamecocks against Georgia on Saturday. They will also need to tighten up defensively.
Still, Steve Spurrier's team was more than good enough in a 56-37 win over East Carolina.
13. Arkansas
Arkansas' chances to impress won't come until a September 24 against Alabama. Missouri State isn't the toughest competition, but the Razorbacks did win 51-7.
14. Ohio State
A tough offseason didn't bother the Buckeyes. They beat Akron 42-0 in the opener. Another big win against Toledo likely awaits.
15. Michigan State
A 28-6 win over Youngstown State wasn't too impressive, but it was hardly a scare. Florida Atlantic awaits the Spartans in Week 2.
16. Mississippi State
The Bulldogs were competitive against Auburn in their 2010 meeting. They will look to avenge that loss in a Week 2 showdown.
17. Oregon
A 40-27 loss to LSU isn't the end of the world for the Ducks. But they will need to find their form again and soon.
18. Florida
The Gators werent tested in a 41-3 win over Florida Atlantic. A home game against UAB isnt likely to be much tougher.
19. Missouri
A 17-6 win over Miami of Ohio could have been better. Still, its a win, giving them a 1-0 record heading into the week two showdown against Arizona State in Tempe.
20. Penn State
The Nittany Lions were dominant over Indiana State in a 41-7 Week 1 blowout. An important home test will come in Week 2 against Alabama.
21. Texas
The Longhorns bounced back from a down year in 2010 with a 34-9 win over Rice. BYU presents an interesting Week 2 game.
22. Arizona State
The Sun Devils should have blown UC Davis out, and they did. Next up is a home game against Missouri. As is the case with the Tigers, a win could do a lot to vault them up the standings.
23. West Virginia
The Big East stalwart opened the year against rival Marshall. The Mountaineers still have never fallen to Marshall. The schedule gets tough quickly, but West Virginia will continue to win against Norfolk State.
24. Michigan
A 34-10 win against Western Michigan was nice. We dont know what kind of team Notre Dame has now, but a big win from the Wolverines would do a lot to impress the voters and computers.
25. South Florida
Again, we dont know what kind of team Notre Dame will be. South Florida took advantage of their opportunities and won in South Bend. Thats not something that can be ignored.
