Basketball during football season? GASP!
Basketball during Southern week? DOUBLE GASP!
Tevester Anderson makes out one tough schedule for his boys.
Jackson State released its basketball schedule today and we hit the highlights, despite it being one of the most important weeks of the 2011 football season, the game at rival Southern. As usual, JSUs schedule is loaded with some big-time names, a couple of them are a part of the Global Sports Shootout, which JSU is included in this year
its something we reported on in May. - The Tigers open the season at Florida on Nov. 11 in a shootout game. They then travel to Baylor (non-shootout) and have shootout games at Wright State and then Ohio State. The final shootout game is a Nov. 25 match at North Florida.
- The home opener is set for Nov.
20 against Concordia College, the same school JSU beat in the season opener in football this year. A meeting with Tulsa at home follows that two days later. We reported on that a while back, too: Tulsa junior and ex-Provine star Scottie Haralson will return to Jackson.
- Nov. 28 brings another big boy: at Memphis. And on Dec. 11, JSU travels to Berkeley, Calif., for a game with Cal. Theyll stop off at St. Marys in Moraga, Calif., too, and then hit SMU and North Texas on the way home.
- JSU opens SWAC play with Alabama A&M at home on Jan. 3 and then hosts Alabama State on Jan. 5.The Tigers play five of their final seven SWAC games on the road.
- Some big SWAC home games: Texas Southern (Jan. 16), Grambling (Jan. 21), the team that eliminated JSU in a wild one in the SWAC Tournament quarterfinal last season and Alcorn (Jan. 4), when former Provine coach Luther Riley returns to the Capital City.
