SC State gets MEAC showdown vs Bethune-Cookman
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) One of South Carolina State's biggest games in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference comes in just the second week of the season.
The Bulldogs open the MEAC season Saturday against Bethune-Cookman, which became the first Football Championship Subdivision team to beat South Carolina State in three years with a 14-0 victory in 2010 in Orangeburg.
S.C. State coach Buddy Pough says he doesn't think revenge will be a factor, because a third of his team wasn't involved in the loss to the Wildcats.
Bethune-Cookman coach Brian Jenkins says he expects a heavyweight fight.
In other games Saturday involving South Carolina's FCS schools, Furman opens the Southern Conference season at The Citadel; Wofford is at Clemson; Coastal Carolina hosts Catawba; Charleston Southern heads to Florida State; and Presbyterian hosts North Greenville.
