N.C. A&T was picked ninth out of 11 MEAC teams, garnering 128 points in the conference's preseason head coaches/sports information directors poll.
"I think they may have picked us too high," said first-year coach Rod Broadway, who inherited a 1-10 team. "We don't have a lot of depth this year, but we're going to line up and go after people with the people we do have."
South Carolina State was No. 1 with six first-place votes and 468 points.
Running back Mike Mayhew was joined on the first team by cornerback D'Vonte Graham and kickoff returner Justin Ferrell.
Swimming
STAR TO HOST: STAR Aquatics has been selected to host the 2012 ESSZ Senior Sectional Championships (Southern Zone Eastern Sectional Senior Championships) at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in March 2012.
The event March 8-11 will include about 600 swimmers. STAR Aquatics partnered with the Greensboro Aquatic Center to win this bid over the 1996 Olympic Pool located at Georgia Tech.
FIGURE SKATING
EVENT IN CONTEST: The 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships at the Greensboro Coliseum are up for SportsTravel awards in the categories of "Best Multi-Sport or Multi-Discipline Event," Amateur division, and "Sport Event of the Year."

COLLEGE Football
GUILFORD PICKED SEVENTH: Guilford's football team was picked seventh in the preseason Old Dominion Athletic Conference coaches poll released Friday. Defending league champion Washington and Lee garnered five first-place votes and 35 points to take the top spot.
Chris Rusiewicz took over as Guilford's head coach in January after 10 seasons as a defensive assistant at Ursinus.

REPORT TAINTS DUKE: Alex Poythress, one of the nation's top basketball prospects, told The Tennessean.com that Duke offered him a scholarship on Monday.
Poythress was competing with the Georgia Stars in the AAU 17-and-under national tournament in Orlando, Fla., at the time.
Under NCAA Bylaw 13.1.6.2.2 (b), coaches are prohibited from having contact at any location with prospects, family members of prospects, prospect's coaches (nonscholastic and scholastic) and anyone associated with a prospect during a certified event.
One impermissible contact by a coach in July would result in a loss of two contacts during the upcoming academic year and two days off the road in July the following year for all members of the coaching staff.
