Alabama A&M: Bulldogs, Golden Tigers both looking for wins

Alabama A&M: Bulldogs, Golden Tigers both looking for wins
Posted By: HBCU Connect Sports on September 25, 2011

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Alabama A&M and Tuskegee will both be looking to break into win column Saturday when the two teams collide in the second annual Louis Crews Classic.

The Bulldogs are 0-2 after losing to Hampton and Southern, while the Golden Tigers are 0-1 after losing their home opener Saturday to Langston. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at Louis Crews Stadium.

"Tuskegee is going to bring a good football team in here," A&M coach Anthony Jones said. "They lost their opener, so they're going to be desperate and fired up about the opportunity to play us.

"We've got to be ready to play or we're not going to like the outcome."

A&M leads the all-time series 24-19-4. The two teams met every year from 1963 through 1999 when A&M joined the SWAC.

They renewed the series in 2008 and 2009 when they met in the Circle City Classic. Tuskegee won 34-24 in 2008, while A&M won 35-15 in 2009. The Bulldogs have won 11 of the last 15 meetings.

Bulldogs honored

Wide receiver Reshaad DeJarnett, defensive end Corey Hart, defensive tackle Montay Rover and kicker/punter Chance Wilson were honored by the coaches for their performance in Saturday's game against Southern.

DeJarnett was named Offensive Player of the Week after catching a career-high five passes for 51 yards.

Hart and Rover were named Co-Defensive Players of the Week. Hart finished with four tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and also made a fourth-down play while grading out 90 percent. Rover had four tackles, one sack, three tackles for loss and also made a fourth-down play while grading out 86 percent.

Wilson was named Special Teams Player of the Week after making 2-of-3 field goals and averaging 46.2 yards per punt.

Hall on defensive line

Chris Hall, who has played fullback and inside linebacker during his career, is now a defensive tackle, defensive coordinator Brawnski Towns said.

With the Bulldogs missing three defensive linemen last week against Southern, Hall, who had been playing inside linebacker on the scout team, was moved to defensive tackle and played well against the Jaguars. He was credited with one tackle.

"He should be able to help us there," Towns said. "He wasn't going to play much at inside linebacker, but he's smart enough and he's got a good motor."
