THE GAME:

Alabama State plays its second consecutive road game to begin the 2011 football season when it faces Eastern Michigan of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) at Noon (CT).

THE SERIES:

This is the first meeting between the two teams.

LAST WEEK:

Alabama State (1-0) opened the season with a 41-9 road victory over Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent Mississippi Valley State. WR Nick Andrews set career highs in receptions (10) and touchdowns (three) while gaining 104 receiving yards. QB Greg Jenkins, making his first start as a Hornet, completed 19 of 27 passes for 188 yards with three touchdown passes and no interceptions. The defense made seven takeaways (2 INTs, 5 FR) and kept the Delta Devils out of the end zone.

Eastern Michigan (1-0) defeated Howard 41-9 on Sunday in a game postponed one day due to inclement weather in the Ypsilanti area.

LAST SEASON:

The Hornets won the Eastern Division Championship in 2010, earning a berth in the SWAC Championship Game. It was the Hornets' third division title in the past eight seasons and first since winning the 2004 SWAC Championship.

Eastern Michigan finished 2-10 overall, 2-6 in the MAC.

BARLOW ENTERS FIFTH SEASON AS HEAD COACH:

ASU and NFL wide receiver Reggie Barlow begins his fifth season as head coach at his alma mater.

In 2010, he posted his first winning season in helping Alabama State to its highest win total since the program won 10 games in 2004. Barlow ended his Hornet career as the school's all-time leader in receptions (133) and receiving yards (2,536) and third in touchdowns (17). Barlow enjoyed an eight-year NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars (1996-2000), one season with Oakland (2001) and two seasons with Tampa Bay (2002-03), where he won a Super Bowl ring with the Buccaneers.
