On Campus: HU releases men's and women's basketball schedules

The Hampton University men's basketball team opens the 2011-12 season on Saturday, Nov. 12, against local rival William and Mary, while the Lady Pirates open the year at Pittsburgh on the same day.

Both teams are coming off Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament titles and NCAA tournament berths. The Lady Pirates (25-7, 15-1 MEAC), the two-time defending conference tournament champions, also won the regular-season league crown.

David Six's Lady Pirates will also travel to Florida on Nov. 22 before their home opener on Dec. 3 against conference foe South Carolina State. HU beat Florida, 69-54, at home last season on Dec. 10.

Ed Joyner's Pirates (24-9, 11-5 MEAC) travel to a tournament in Cancun, Mexico, from Nov. 23-24 before opening home and MEAC play against Savannah State on Dec. 1. The Pirates will again play in the Big Apple Classic at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 3 against Howard and former Hampton coach Kevin Nickelberry.
