Posted By: How May I Help You NC on September 20, 2011 We are seeking an academic year, tenure-track assistant professor of marriage and family therapy, with a teaching assignment in Blacksburg, Virginia. The starting date is August, 2012. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2011 and continue until a suitable candidate is appointed. Salary is dependent on qualifications. Responsibilities include: • An active program of research and related publications • A sustained program of grant writing and/or contract activities • Teaching and supervision in the marriage and family therapy (MFT) doctoral program • Teaching additional departmental undergraduate and/or graduate courses • Service as the MFT program Internship Coordinator • Service on student graduate committees and participation on research teams • Advising undergraduate and graduate students • Service on departmental, college, and university committees About the Department of Human Development (http://www.humandevelopment.vt.edu) The Department of Human Development has programs that cover the human life cycle. Graduate programs are offered in both Blacksburg and Falls Church, Virginia. Currently there are approximately 500 undergraduates and 71 graduate students on the Blacksburg campus. There are 43 faculty, research associates, and staff in the department. In the last decade, Human Development has twice won the university's Exemplary Department award. About the MFT PhD Program (http://www.familytherapy.vt.edu) The MFT PhD Program is the oldest continuously accredited program of its kind, graduating over 125 students since 1978. The program has four full-time faculty mentoring upwards of 12 on-campus students and a roughly equal number of students serving off-campus internships and finishing their degrees. The program operates an off-campus training clinic that takes in over 200 new cases each year. Recent program faculty have served as presidents of AAMFT, chaired the COAMFTE, won the AAMFT Outstanding Contribution to Marriage and Family Therapy award, and won college awards for advising, outreach, administration and teaching. One is currently Editor-Elect of the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy. Program faculty have published and presented prolifically in a wide variety of journals and forums, and garnered nearly one million dollars in external funding in the last three years. Program students have likewise won numerous awards, including the AAMFT Dissertation and Graduate Student Research awards; five current students are AAMFT SAMHSA Minority Doctoral Fellows. They have held prestigious internships at sites such as the Chicago Center for Family Health and Concord Teaching Hospital of Dartmouth University. Program alumni have gone on to distinguished academic and clinical careers, including election as Robert Wood Johnson Congressional Fellows for Senators Jay Rockefeller and Barack Obama, service on division and the AAMFT central boards of directors, and endowed-chair professorships at major academic centers such as Colorado State and Vanderbilt universities.
