Posted By: How May I Help You NC on October 14, 2011 Get to know your future employer. HBCUConnect.com wants you to connect with one of our Top 50 Employers of 2011. Teach For America is committed to offering opportunities to HBCU students. In fact, Teach For America has hired hundreds of HBCU students and alumni over the past 20 years, including more than 575 HBCU students and alumni in the last 8 years alone. Teach For America is a national corporation that is working to eliminate educational inequity in low-income areas by calling upon our most promising future leaders - recent college graduates and professionals of all backgrounds and academic majors - to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools. In addition to the two year teaching commitment, Teach For America also encourages their corps members and alumni to become leaders, across various professional sectors, in the movement to close the educational achievement gap that disproportionately impacts students growing up in low-income communities and children of color. Teach For America seeks, passionate, diverse leaders who are committed to giving all children the excellent education they deserve and have what it takes to put their students on a new trajectory to success in school and in life. Recruiters visit hundreds of campuses, meeting with student leaders and hosting events, to identify top talent of all backgrounds. To connect with more HBCU talent, Teach For America partnered with organizations such as the United Negro College Fund, the Ron Brown Scholars Program, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, the Gates Millennium Scholars, the Jackie Robinson Foundation, and HBCUConnect.com as well as many other organizations. Teach For America is committed to developing a pipeline of diverse talent at HBCUs. They provide workshops on leadership, professional development, resume writing, networking, and interviewing sessions to help HBCU students navigate their way through college and post-graduation. Chante’ Chambers, an alumna of Spelman College, leads Teach For America’s recruitment efforts at HBCUs. As a corps member, Chante taught 8th grade Language Arts Literacy at Pyne Poynt Middle School in Camden, New Jersey and led her students to over 2 years of academic growth during each year of her corps commitment. She is a great person to network with if you would like to connect with someone who cares about your experience and success at Teach For America. Teach For America is opening the door to you. If you are interested to learn more, please contact HBCU@teachforamerica.org and we will work to connect you with your campus’ Teach For America representative. We encourage you to join the hundreds of HBCU alumni who are members of the Teach For America network. In order to apply to the 2012 corps, please visit www.teachforamerica.org. The next application deadline is October 26, 2011 followed by our fourth application deadline on January 6, 2012 and finally our final application deadline on February 13th, 2012.
