ASU’s Andrews and ECSU’s McNeill Win Week-7 Fan Poll National Player of the Week Honors

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on October 20, 2011 Hartly, DE – It was not close for Alabama State fans, as they ran away with the voting again on the FCS side and Elizabeth City State fans took over the race on the Division II side. ASU’s WR Nick Andrews and ECSU’s Daronte McNeill are the winners of week-seven Fan Poll voting for the HSRN National Player of the Week. Each week during the season, HSRN’s staff will select the top performances from all HBCU action and give the fans across the country a chance to vote for the Player of the Week. This was the sixth time in seven weeks that Alabama State Hornets’ fans have made sure their star athlete came out on top. In Div. I FCS voting Andrews won with 2,004 votes, QB Mike German (Tennessee St.) finished with 92 votes, RB Travis Davidson (Morgan St.) finished with 22 votes, and WR Jared Green (Southern) 5. Div. II voting has McNeill with 1,365 votes, followed by QB Quinshon Odom (Shaw) 795, QB Teddy Bacote (St. Augustine’s) 217, RB DeMario Pippen (Tuskegee) 57. HSRN developed the fan poll to get all HBCU alumni, students and fans involved with the national process and to also give everyone a chance to consistently keep up with the individual performances around the country. I-FCS Nick Andrews – Alabama St. – WR – 5’9, 170 – SR/Maplesville, AL Andrews finished the game with nine (9) receptions, 118 yards, 1 TD in their 20-7win over vs. Prairie View. He became the Hornets All-time leader in receptions, added to career receiving touchdowns mark, and moved closer to all-time receiving yards record. He caught a 34-yard touchdown pass in second quarter (26th of career)…helped Hornets improve to 6-1 overall, 6-0 in SWAC for first time since 2005 Div. II Daronte McNeill – Elizabeth City St. – RB – 6’2, 215 – JR/Elizabeth City, NC McNeill picked up 189 yards on 35 carries and three touchdowns. His efforts in their ground attack helped the Vikings to a 28-7 win over Virginia State, keeping them in the hunt for the Northern Division Championship race for the CIAA Championship game.
