The women’s cross country team at Virginia State University placed second overall with 33 points at the 2011 Women’s Cross Country Championships at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC on Thursday, Oct. 20th. Four Lady Trojans received All-CIAA honors placing in the top 10.

The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State won the event with 31 team points. VSU followed right behind with 33 team points as runners placed 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 15th individually.

The Lady Trojans placed four runners in the top 10 individually.
Seniors, Sierra Clayton and Samantha Edwards led the Lady Trojans finishing behind Winston-Salem State’s Brittney Killebrew. Clayton placed 2nd overall with a time of 19:37.6 and Edwards placed 3rd with a time of 19:43.7.

VSU’s Jourdan Johnson placed 6th with a time of 20:24.6 and Jenna Arnold placed 7th with a time of 20:37.5. Victoria Brunson placed 15th with a time of 21:26.3.

Clayton, Edwards, Johnson, and Arnold received All-CIAA honors for their performances at the 2011 Women’s Cross Country Championships.

On the men’s side, VSU placed fourth overall with 90 points at the 2011 Men’s Cross Country Championships.



Sophomore, Chris Henry led the Trojans with an 8th place finish with a time of 27:10.5.

VSU had runners placed 8th, 11th, 16th, 27th, 28th, 35th, and 43rd individually. Henry was named to the All-CIAA team after placing 8th in the 8k race.

Two other Trojans placed in the top 20 individually along with Henry. Freshman, Prince Owusu-Mensah placed 11th with a time of 27:24.2 and junior, Andres McIntrye placed 16th with a time of 28:07.2.

Two VSU freshmen finished one after the other. Quaran Robinson placed 27th overall with a time of 29:13.1 and Justin Pittman was 28th with a time of 29:20.4.

Shaw University won the overall event with 44 team points. Winston-Salem State was second with 47 points and Saint Augustine’s placed third with 75 points.

The men’s and women’s cross country team will next compete at the NCAA Div. II Atlantic Regionals in Slippery Rock, PA on Nov. 5th.
