7 Steps to Overcome Obstacles - Take a Hike

Posted By: Shauntae Jordan on October 26, 2011

It is encouraged that you face your obstacles big or small. After taking a hike with a group of determined women I realized that hiking is much like the obstacles we face daily. There are times when the journey seems clear and attainable. At other times the journey supply’s uncertainty, fear, discomfort, and obstacles. As I hiked up the strenuous mountain I found that there were 7 Steps to Overcome Obstacles.

1. Speak the obstacle: You must be honest with yourself of the obstacle you are facing. Prior to beginning our hike we all spoke of our obstacles. The obstacles ranged from fear, financial, relationships, and personal development. We spoke to our obstacles becoming enlightened as to what we truly wanted to overcome.

2. Find an accountability partner: As we began our hike we were asked to find an accountability partner. An accountability partner is someone who will hold you responsible to your goal, mission, and purpose and will motivate you to stay the course. As we hiked the mountain we discussed our obstacles. The emotions, the feelings, the expectations, and we shared wisdom with one another.

3.

Be open for the experience: There is nothing familiar in the forest. The trees seem to look the same in every area we traveled. When overcoming obstacles it is important to indulge in the moment. The good, the bad, and the times when it is most difficult make the reward more fulfilling.

4. Expect to be uncomfortable: Be willing to be uncomfortable. Be comfortable being uncomfortable. It may get tough, but it's a small price to pay for living a dream.
Peter McWilliams

5. Be willing to overcome: Several women who were afraid of heights. This did not discourage them from the hike. Instead it allowed them to overcome yet another fear. Had they not faced the fear they would not have experienced the finale of reaching the top of the mountain. The view was so much better from the top.

6. Accept what you can't change: . The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

7. Be determined to succeed: You never will know your greatness until you reach your greatest potential. The results are much better when you accomplish what you begin. The greatest results are gained by starting.
