Elections 2011: Voter turnout seems low at 2 Richmond precincts

Posted By: Rudolph Hickman on November 08, 2011 At Voter Precinct 301, John Marshall High in Richmond, voter turnout was slight as of 2:00 pm today. The same seemed evident at The Fifth Street Baptist Church in Highland Park as it approaches 6:00 pm with almost an hour left to vote. While no one can say with any degree of certainty what this means, it is pause for some concern for area Democrats who hold a slim lead in The Virginia Senate. Those on the Democratic ballot for Precinct 301 are: Donald McEachin for Senate and Joe Morrissey for House of Delegates. McEachin is unopposed and incumbent Joseph D. (Joe) Morrissey (74th District) is facing a challenge by Rev. Dwayne E. Whitehead, an East End pastor who is running as an independent in his first bid for office. What seems evident from today's turnout at the 2 polling precincts noted above is that the majority of voters coming to the polls are women and of all those observed leaving the polls most are middle-aged and older. Absent from this election seemingly are the hordes of first-time and younger voters who catapulted Barack Obama to the Office of President in 2008. see more at: http://www.examiner.com/political-buzz-in-...
