HSRN also remains committed to presenting significant games involving the elite women's programs from Historically Black Colleges and Universities as well. "We are excited about the schedule, especially with our commitment to include women's basketball again this season," said Omarr Bashir, HSRN CEO. "HSRN will again be pre-eminent voice of HBCU basketball for 2012 and we are looking forward to an exciting season." The major portion of the regular season schedule begins January 4 with a critical MEAC contest featuring resurgent men's programs from Howard University and Coppin State in a prime time showdown at 7 pm ET (4pm PT). The first doubleheader featuring men's and women's matchups will be the Winston-Salem State Rams hosting Virginia Union. Among the other highlights of the regular season schedule is a rematch of last year's MEAC men's championship game between Hampton and Morgan State from Baltimore on January 14. That doubleheader also features the defending women's champion Lady Pirates against the Lady Bears. The nation's premiere Division II conference (CIAA) is featured four times during the regular season with games involving several nationally ranked teams. Bowie State, 2011 North Division Champion and NCAA Tournament participant, faces Johnson C. Smith in a doubleheader on January 19. On January 21 Winston-Salem State, another 2011 NCAA Tournament team, faces last year's men's CIAA runner up Fayetteville State. For the fifth consecutive year HSRN will be the exclusive national radio voice of the 100th anniversary CIAA Basketball Tournament from Charlotte, North Carolina from February 28 - March 3 and potentially NCAA Division II national tournament contests as well. Again, HSRN will allow fans from around the country a chance to vote for the men's and women's Player of the Week for Division I and II. For over 100 years HBCU's have participated in collegiate athletics with little to no media coverage. Stars like Walter Payton, Doug Williams, and Michael Strahan are just a few of the many superstars who were HBCU athletes. There are approximately 7 million fans of HBCU sports who were media orphans in search of a home. HSRN is the only national radio network dedicated to HBCU sports. Our goal is to fuse the greats of the past with the stars of today to showcase the significance of this unique colorful and underserved sports community.
